Effect of Temperature on Scent Emission from Carnation Cut Flowers

نویسندگان

چکیده

Temperature, an environmental factor affecting cut flowers' physiological state, is expected to affect scent emission. We investigated emission from carnation flowers of two types (Dianthus caryophyllus L.), exhibiting fruity (because methyl benzoate) and spicy eugenol) scents, at various temperatures (10°C, 15°C, 23°C, 28°C). Cut harvested on the day flower opening were used for analysis. Scent was significantly higher 23°C 28°C than 10°C 15°C until 1 or 2 days but lower 8 10 postharvest. Methyl benzoate emissions decreased faster eugenol emissions. Considering limit noticeable scent, as per previous sensory evaluations carnations, lasted longest 15°C. After ~5 pretreatment 10°C, slightly improved 23°C. Such management before sale may contribute persistence room temperature in consumers' homes after sale. Various factors, including suppression substrate consumption, regulation cuticle, influence expression emission–related genes, retention because low temperature.

Acceleration of Membrane Senescence in Cut Carnation Flowers

The lipid microviscosity of microsomal membranes from senescing cut carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L. cv. White Sim) flowers rises with advancing senescence. The increase in membrane microviscosity is initiated within 3 to 4 days of cutting the flowers and coincides temporaDly with petal-inroDling denoting the climacteric-like rise in ethylene production. Treatment of young cut flowers with a...

Stress-induced Ethylene Production in Flower Parts of Cut Carnation Flowers Cv. Light Pink Tasman

Ethylene is a plant hormone with endogenous production associated with the process of senescence for a number of cut flowers. Different stressogenic factors, including signals such as pollination, exogenous ethylene and auxins have been found to be associated with the increase in ethylene emission and a specific tissue response has been documented. The present study was undertaken with the aim ...

Psidium guajava and Piper betle Leaf Extracts Prolong Vase Life of Cut Carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus) Flowers

The effect of leaf extracts of Psidium guajava and Piper betle on prolonging vase life of cut carnation flowers was studied. "Carola" and "Pallas Orange" carnation flowers, at bud stage, were pulsed 24 hours with a floral preservative. Then, flowers were placed in a vase solution containing sprite and a "germicide" (leaf extracts of P. guajava and P. betle, 8-HQC, or a copper coin). Flowers tre...
